Fuel Efficiency

Fuel Efficiency

Engineered to operate on the Atkinson cycle, a 2.5-liter internal combustion engine is integrated into the 2021 Ford Escape’s hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrain. With additional assistance from the Intake Variable Cam Timing technology, this four-cylinder powerplant yields 165 horsepower. Generating on-demand power without any delays, a 96-kW electric motor supplements the efficient iVCT engine block. Cooled by a liquid, a lithium-ion battery pack also works in sync with the 2.5-L gas engine. The plug-in hybrid powertrain may be fully recharged in 3.5 hours through the Level 2 charging system, which requires a 240-volt power outlet. Compatible with a 110-volt power outlet, the Level 1 charging system restores the vehicle’s electrical storage in approximately 11 hours. Based on EPA projections, the 2021 Escape hybrid editions offer a fuel economy of 44 MPG in the city and 37 MPG on the highway. The 2021 Jeep Cherokee doesn’t even come close to matching such impressive gas mileage. This compact SUV achieves a maximum fuel economy of 31 MPG on the highway when powered by the Tigershark engine or turbo engine. As expected, the powerful Pentastar V-6 engine slightly reduces the gas mileage. Even when equipped with the 1.5-L EcoBoost I-3 engine, the 2021 Escape delivers better fuel economy than the Jeep Cherokee. In fact, the potent 2.0-L EcoBoost engine matches the gas mileage ratings of the Cherokee’s turbo engine.

The 2021 Escape’s Full Digital Instrument Cluster measures 12.3 inches wide with a sleek and modern appearance. This crisp display presents real-time information on the Selectable Drive Modes, which appear in a carousel-style layout within your line of sight. For example, you can quickly toggle between the Slippery and Deep Snow/Sand modes when driving on off-road trails. Other modes at your fingertips include Eco, Normal, and Sport. Likewise, the 2021 Cherokee Traction Management System offers shift-on-the-fly engagement of several off-road modes. You could also view the Off-Road Pages on the Uconnect monitor, which supports touch input.

Similarly, the 2021 Escape’s SYNC 3 display has a logical menu with touch-sensitive controls. Both compact SUVs offer smooth smartphone integration through Bluetooth, Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay. In addition, all occupants inside the 2021 Escape could connect their mobile devices to the FordPass Wi-Fi network. Delivered by AT&T, the hotspot is optimized for ten simultaneous connections. By contrast, the 2021 Cherokee’s Wi-Fi hotspot is limited to eight simultaneous connections.

Safety Features

Safety Features

The 2021 Ford Escape has the Active Park Assist 2.0 technology that gives you extra confidence for parking on urban streets. Linked to side sensors, the Park Out Assist will help you exit a parking space without trouble. The 2021 Jeep Cherokee’s ParkSense Rear Park Assist doesn’t provide as much assistance for the driver. Additionally, the Co-Pilot360 suite gives the 2021 Escape a clear edge over the Jeep model in active safety.
