The 2021 Ford Explorer is a three-row SUV with seven seats. The 2021 Ford Explorer ST is a high-end model in the lineup that also offers three rows of seating for seven people. Both models boast spectacular performance features, interior amenities, and high-tech features that drivers would love.
The 2021 Ford Explorer base trim is equipped with a 2.3 L engine from the latest EcoBoost series. Featuring a single turbocharger, this direct-injected powertrain produces up to 300 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. Fitted with twin turbochargers, a 3.0 L V6 engine from the EcoBoost line is standard on the Explorer ST. This high-level model extracts up to 400 hp and 415 lb-ft from the six-cylinder powertrain. Both Explorer editions are driven by an automatic transmission system that generates ten speeds. Running on the SelectShift technology, the gearbox is paired with a rear-wheel-drive on the base model. This entry-level trim also offers the Intelligent 4WD System, the default drivetrain on the ST edition. Both 2021 Explorer trims also have the Terrain Management System and Hill Descent Control for best-in-class handling on unpaved trails.
Featuring a tri-zone design, the Electronic Automatic Temperature Control is installed in the 2021 Ford Explorer base, and ST trims. Rear auxiliary climate control panels allow the passengers in the second row to customize the temperature settings. Designed for up to three passengers, a 35-30-35 bench seat is standard in the second row of the entry-level model. Designed for two people, the ST’s second-row includes captain’s chairs with the E-Z Entry and Power-Assist Fold functions. A center console with cupholders is installed between the captain’s chairs. Having a 50-50 configuration, the base trim’s third-row bench seat comes with a manual adjustment. Both Ford SUVs have dome lights in all three rows. Additionally, these family-friendly vehicles include cargo hooks and power door locks for extra utility during road trips. Some other premium amenities inside the ST edition include ambient lighting, second-row blinds, a twin-panel moonroof, and a heated steering wheel.
The 2021 Ford Explorer base model and ST have an infotainment system from Ford’s SYNC platform. A voice-activated GPS navigation system is standard in the ST edition.
