Ford’s Super Duty trucks are among the most powerful, load-bearing, and tow-capable pickups outside the commercial fleet vehicle class. Both the Ford F-350 and F-450 models come in various trims and cab sizes, but several key differences separate them. These include powertrain choices, standard cab configurations, and standard versus optional interior features.
Each of the 2020 Ford F-350 Super Duty cab variants can be purchased with the choice of three different engines. The standard power source is 6.2L V8 rated at 385 horsepower and 430 lb-ft of torque. A 7.3L V8 is available, and this engine pumps out an impressive 430 horsepower. There’s also the 6.7L turbocharged diesel engine with its 475 horsepower and whopping 1,050 lb-ft of torque. Rear-wheel drive is standard, but all-wheel drive is optional. All three engines are paired to a 10-speed automatic transmission. Properly equipped and with the most powerful engine, the F-350 can tow more than 24,000 pounds. The 2020 Ford F-450 Super Duty is available in six trims, and two cab/bed configurations are offered. Regardless of trim, all F-450 models are powered by the 6.7L diesel V8 with its 475 horsepower and 1,050 lb-ft of torque. Transmission is a 10-speed automatic, and rear-wheel drive is standard. All trims can be ordered with all-wheel drive. The F-450 Super Duty can tow up to 37,000 pounds.
The 2020 Ford F-350 Super Duty model can be purchased as a two-door regular cab, a four-door extended cab, or a four-door crew cab. Each of these cab styles can be configured to either a 6.8-ft or 8.2-ft bed length. The two-door models have a front bench, and the four-door models can be purchased with a rear bench or a bucket-seat front and bench rear. However, not all of the seating options are available on all trims. The 2020 Ford F-450 Super Duty model is available as a two-door regular cab or a four-door crew cab. A mid-size extended cabin variant isn’t offered, and the regular cab style is only available on the lower two trims.
Even if the base model 2020 Ford F-350 Super Duty is chosen, the buyer is rewarded with a nicely designed interior. The seats are comfortable, and the cabin height is impressive. It can accommodate six-footers with ease, and the high-tech is quite visible. Standard features include the Sync infotainment system, a 4.2-inch display screen, 4G LTE with a Wi-Fi hotspot, and a rearview camera. Additional safety systems are standard on the next trim up the ladder, the XLT. This trim also gets an 8-inch screen display and the advanced Sync 3 infotainment system. The uplevel trims add on leather upholstery, a B&O sound system, and heated and ventilated front seats. The 2020 Ford F-450 Super Duty also impresses with its long list of standard features. The base XL has a tilt-and-telescopic steering wheel, air conditioning, vinyl seat and floor coverings, a rearview camera, the Sync system with Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi service for up to 10 devices. The uplevel trims add on the Sync 3 infotainment system, an 8-inch screen display, smartphone app integration, and the Co-Pilot360 suite of driver aids.
