Full-size trucks are often thought of as rugged but lacking in modern conveniences. The 2020 Ford F-150 certainly doesn’t fit that description. Not only is this model tough enough to handle the largest payloads and maneuver through uneven terrain, it boasts a contemporary cabin with all the high-tech trimmings. New for 2020 are package options for groups of driver aids, new appearance packages for several trims, and standard Wi-Fi and 4G LTE connectivity across the trim lineup.

Horsepower, 3.3L Ti-VCT V6 Engine

2020 Ford F-150 Performance

Ford F-150 Performance

The base engine on the 2020 F-150 is no slouch. It’s a 3.3L V6 rated at 290 horsepower, and it’s mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. If more torque is desired, the available turbocharged 2.7L V8 produces 325 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque. A 3.5L turbo V6 is also an option. This engine pumps out 375 horsepower and is rated at 460 lb-ft of torque. There’s also an extra-powerful 450-horsepower, 510 lb-ft of torque version of this engine, but it’s only available on the Limited and Raptor trims. The diesel option provides only 250 horsepower but promises 440 lb-ft of torque in the lower gears. All-wheel drive is optional on the F-150, and with the larger engine, this truck can tow as much as the Chevy Silverado. The Raptor trim is oriented to off-road performance and comes with a reinforced frame, its own special four-wheel drive system, long-travel suspension, skid plates, and Fox shock absorbers.

The 2020 Ford F-150 is available as a two-door regular cab or a four-door extended or crew cab model. The two-door version seats three with ease, and five is the seating capacity in the extended cab versions. The base XL trim comes with vinyl flooring and a four-speaker stereo. High-tech goodies include Bluetooth and USB connectivity, but a package must be ordered for these. The uplevel XLT gets front seat lumbar adjustment, an 8-inch screen display, and Ford’s Sync 3 infotainment interface. The Lariat model comes with power-adjustable pedals, dual-zone climate control on the extended cab versions, and leather upholstery. The top trims add on interior accents, a more powerful stereo system with additional speakers, and keyless ignition. The off-road Raptor is similarly equipped to the XLT. Smartphone app integration is standard except on the base XL trim.

All trims come standard with stability and traction control, rear door child safety locks on the extended cab versions, child seat anchors and tethers on the four-door cabs, and dual front airbags. The four-door configurations also come with side or roof airbags. The NHTSA awarded the 2020 Ford F-150 four stars out of a possible five for front crash protection, four stars for rollover protection, and five stars for side crash protection.
