The 2020 Ford Edge outperforms the 2020 Honda CR-V in torque, horsepower and towing. Equipped with the Ford Co-Pilot360 technology, the Edge also beats the CR-V in active safety. Both compact crossover SUVs offer Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, but the FordPass Connect has better digital services than the HondaLink portal.
2020 Ford Edge
$31,100 – $43,265*
Horsepower, 2.0L EcoBoost® I-4 Engine
2020 Honda CR-V
$25,050 – $35,950
Horsepower, 1.5L 4-Cylinder Engine
Whipping out 250 horsepower, the 2.0 L EcoBoost engine drives the 2020 Edge. A single turbocharger with a twin-scroll geometry helps this I-4 powertrain crank out 280 pound-feet at 3,000 RPM. This compact Ford crossover SUV harnesses up to 335 hp and 380 lb-ft from the 2.7 L EcoBoost V6 engine, which features twin turbochargers. Standard in the 2020 CR-V, the 1.5 L turbo powertrain delivers only 190 hp and slightly less than 180 lb-ft. Rated at 212 hp and 232 lb-ft, this Honda’s hybrid powertrain is still no match for the EcoBoost engines. The lightweight 2020 CR-V can’t tow more than 1,500 pounds. If you add the Class II Trailer Tow Package to the 2020 Edge, you can tow a 3,500-pound trailer. In terms of all-weather performance, the vehicle’s Intelligent AWD with the Drive Disconnect matches the CR-V’s Real Time AWD.
Powered by the SYNC 3 technology, the 2020 Edge’s 8-inch touch screen is slightly slanted for optimum visibility. You may pinch, swipe and tap the electrostatic display to access SiriusXM Traffic, Travel Link and Waze. The updated AppLink portal is now compatible with Amazon Alexa, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Unfortunately, the 2020 CR-V’s 7-inch infotainment system doesn’t offer as many connections. However, this model comes with the HondaLink suite and Bluetooth HandsFree Link. Featuring 4G LTE WiFi, the FordPass Connect bundle has more advanced services than the HondaLink. For instance, you may find local parking options and compare fuel prices through the FordPass Connect system. Additionally, the FordPay app provides convenient ways to pay your auto loan, lease or other recent bills. Carrying the B&O Play label, the 2020 Edge’s 12-speaker sound system produces pleasant acoustics. The 2020 CR-V’s most advanced audio system only has nine speakers.
The 2020 Edge’s Pre-Collision Assist may help you avoid a collision with vehicles or crossing pedestrians. If a quick stop is required, the Emergency Automatic Braking will kick in. Need to squeeze this Ford crossover SUV into a parallel parking space? Follow the instructions from the Active Park Assist. This all-new driving aide also includes the Park Out Assist function. You won’t find such sophisticated parking features in the Honda Sensing suite, which is standard in the 2020 CR-V. Both compact crossover SUVs have warning systems for blind spots and unintentional lane changes. Additionally, these family vehicles offer the Automatic High-Beam Headlights for safe driving at night.
