The Saleen is a model of the Mustang that has been developed by Steve Saleen of southern California. Saleen is a sports car enthusiast who made a name for himself in the automotive world by developing a sleek, small "race" truck and ultimately a line of sports cars that would bear his name: Saleen. In 1986 Saleen Autosport entered the Sports Car Club of America Showroom stock series with a "race version" of the Saleen Mustang. The Saleen ended up winning the grinding 24 hour race with sponsorship from General Tire.
In June of last year at a champagne reception at the Saleen World Headquarters, Steve Saleen introduced "a Lady in Red," the first S7 road car. It was a beautiful mid-engine, exotic supercar produced by Saleen, which he handed over to owners Jerry and Kathy Ritzow. “We will race the S7,” Saleen said, “because much of what we have learned about how to make a better performing Mustang for the street came from our racing. We will apply similar lessons from the S7 in competition to the street version we will produce.” The S7 is designed to compete with the fastest, quickest, best handling, most luxurious grand touring cars in the world, while providing a distinctly American driving experience for the fortunate few who will own one.
" We've used our racing experience on the track and adapted this technology in the engineering of the SR to create the ultimate street performance vehicle", said Steve
Saleen, president and founder of Saleen Inc. "The SR goes from 0-60 mph 'very quickly' and hits a quarter mile speed 'very fast'."
Since the introduction of the original Saleen in 1984, the upgraded Mustang has become more and more popular among sports car and racing enthusiasts alike.
